چکیده

In this paper, it was firstly confirmed by FEM analysis of ground during earthquake that two kinds of techniques using both displacements of hollow and natural grounds in seismic deformation method were equivalent. Then, the authors were proposed a criterion for evaluating applicability of seismic deformation method, based on comparison of calculated results of both the above-mentioned techniques and the most reasonable dynamic response analysis. Furthermore, the applicability of the seismic deformation methods using static FEM technique to a seismic design of underground linear structure was evaluated, based on the proposed evaluation criterion. As the result, it was concluded that the seismic deformation methods using static FEM technique was a reasonable analytical technique. Then, comparison between FEM seismic deformation method and 2-dimensional FEM dynamic effective stress analysis (LIQCA-2D) for a normal box-type underground railway one-layered structure with two spans were carried out. Through these results, it was confirmed that FEM seismic deformation method was a reasonable analytical technique with sufficiently acceptable accuracy.

Effects of the Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction on the Component Demand Modifier Factor of Concrete Gravity Beams based on ASCE 41-06 Standard

The aim of the present paper is to evaluate the influence of the Soil- Foundation- Structure Interaction (SFSI) effects on the component demand modifier factor of concrete gravity beams based on ASCE 41-06 standard. To this end, the beam on the nonlinear Winkler foundation approach is employed which is a simple and efficient method. At first, four sets of 3-, 6-, 10- and 15-storey concrete mome...

A new method for drawing the capacity spectrum for seismic analysis and structural rehabilitation

A review of previous studies shows that there are two general views on how to determine demand in structures through incremental nonlinear static analysis. In the first view, multi-modal methods are used to determine demand in structures. In this view, the applied load pattern is applied to the structure according to the shape of each vibration mode, assuming that the structure deformation foll...

Generalized Warping In Flexural-Torsional Buckling Analysis of Composite Beams

The finite element method is employed for the flexural-torsional linear buckling analysis of beams of arbitrarily shaped composite cross-section taking into account generalized warping (shear lag effects due to both flexure and torsion). The contacting materials, that constitute the composite cross section, may include a finite number of holes. A compressive axial load is applied to the beam. The...

Appropriate Loading Techniques in Finite Element Analysis of Underground Structures

Stability of underground structures is assessed by comparing rock strength with induced stresses resulted from ground stresses. Rock mass surrounding the opening may fail either by fracture or excessive deformation caused. Accurate calculation of induced stresses is therefore fundamental in the stability analysis of an opening. Although numerical methods, particularly finite element method, are...

Research of Non-linear 2.5D Fluid-structure Interaction Model of Gravity Dam

Aseismic safety of dam involves people’s lives and properties, even has a great impact on national economic development. The key to this project is to have a fairly complete fluid-structure interaction (FSI) theory and a calculation method with a good accuracy. Therefore, focused on the FSI dynamic problem of gravity dam under seismic action, this paper presented the non-linear 2.5D dynamic the...
